Single items and furniture delivery in Southampton
A sofa from a marketplace seller, a bed to a family member, a fridge from the shop, a few boxes into storage. Single item jobs are the bread and butter of a man with a van in Southampton, and they are priced the same way as everything else: by the hour, by van size.

What counts as a single item job
Anything that is not a whole home. Typical jobs in and around the city include collecting a sofa or dining table bought online, delivering a bed or wardrobe to a relative, moving a washing machine or fridge freezer, carrying a bike, a piano or a large plant, taking boxes to a storage unit, and bringing flat-pack furniture home from a store. Most of them use a Medium van and an hour or two of time.

Most local jobs here are small: one or two hours of loading, a Medium van, a short drive across the city. That describes the single item job exactly.

How the price works
Your price covers the driver's drive from their base and back, plus the loading and unloading time you choose. For a single sofa across town you might book an hour of loading and unloading in total, and the drive is short, so a Medium van and a nearby driver usually come out cheapest. The form shows each driver's price for the job before you book.
Longer trips are fine. One recent job carried two sofas and a coffee table from Southampton to Swansea, with the longer drive built into the price.
Buying second-hand furniture
Marketplace sellers usually want the item gone on a set day and will not help carry it. Confirm the address, the floor it is on and whether it comes apart. Ask the seller for a photo of the item next to a door so the driver can judge the size. Then book the pickup for a time the seller has agreed. If you want to be there, ask the driver whether you can ride in the van or meet them at the seller's door.
Appliances and heavy items
Washing machines, fridge freezers, American fridges, treadmills and pianos need two people and sometimes a trolley. Choose a driver who can bring a helper, or be ready to take one end yourself. Tell the driver what it is and which floor it is on when you book. Disconnect appliances before the van arrives, and let a fridge stand upright for a while after the move before switching it on.
Storage runs and multi-stop jobs
A man with a van can call at more than one address, such as collecting from two sellers or dropping half a load at a storage unit and half at a friend's house. Put the main pickup and drop-off in the form and mention the extra stop to the driver when they get in touch, so the loading time can be set to cover it.
Which van
A Medium van takes a sofa, a wardrobe, a double mattress or a couple of appliances with room to spare. Choose a Large van for several large pieces at once, such as a whole living room set, and a Luton for anything tall that must travel upright. The van sizes page describes each.
Parking for a quick collection
For a job measured in minutes at each end, parking matters more than anything. A van that can stop outside loads a sofa in a few minutes. One that has to park three streets away does not. The parking guide explains loading on yellow lines, resident bays and the council's £14 bay suspension for when you need a bay reserved for the day.
Booking
Enter the pickup and delivery postcodes and the loading time, then pick a driver and van. A deposit is held on your card until the driver confirms. If they can't do it, another local driver is offered the job, and if nobody can, the hold is released. You pay the rest to the driver on the day. For whole homes see house removals, for stock and offices see business moves, and for term-time jobs see student moves. The home page has the overview and the prices page the full pricing model.
